Tifway 419 Hybrid Bermuda
Tifway 419 Bermuda was developed from the famed Tifton, Georgia turf breeding program. Its dense, rapidly spreading growth habit means quick recovery from injury, making it one of the most durable Hybrid Bermudas.
Tifway 419 tolerates close mowing and is highly disease resistant. Bermuda is used on fairways, roughs, sports fields, and commercial and residential lawns. Tifway performs at its best in full sun with a mowing height of 1/2“-3/4”. It grows well in nearly all soil types and resistant to drought. It spreads both above ground (stolons) and below ground (rhizomes) which makes it very aggressive and able to wear well and compete successfully with most weed species. The biggest negatives to bermudagrass are that it tends to creep into the flower beds, and it does not tolerate shade very well. Do not select bermudagrass for lawns that are shady.
Bermudagrass requires monthly applications of Nitrogen to provide a quality turf. Turfgrass fertilization programs can vary from site to site. To determine a specific fertilization program for your site, contact your local County Extension Agent.
Bermuda grass is well suited to high traffic areas such as sports fields, golf courses, and playgrounds. A dense Bermuda grass turf tolerates moderate wear and compaction and recovers rapidly from wear injury. Under moderate fertilization, frequent mowing and adequate moisture Bermuda grass forms a dense, fine-textured turf. The only situation where Bermuda grass cannot be used is in moderate to heavily shaded sites.
